DDmom, in this case, the couple do not want to keep in touch, which I totally respect. We talk to the parents and other relatives(couple of time a year or when we visit India) just because we want to keep in touch and do not expect any kind of excuses from them.
Feeling guilty->covering it up with some soppy excuse gets me mad to the point of now assuming that it is an insinuation that I am running around with lots of free time on my hands. When you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.

I got to echo yaadayaada.
On the second one, somewhat similar situation here, just that we are at the receiving end. Father-in-laws close friend, but hubby not interested in keeping in touch for various valid reasons. F-i-l insists on us visiting them which hubby blatantly refuses.
Point is, I am sure f-i-l tells the same thing to that family whenever they talk. Not sure what else he could say without the fear of losing his relationship with them? They are not interested in talking to you? dunno..
Maybe its not the couples message, its just the uncles and parents saying it for lack of reasons.

I was reading everyone’s judgemental tag and was thinking that I could never take up that tag and I see you making a good job of that tag. This is the most non-offensive judgemental tag I ever came across.
