I know! I am nuts! But I just love looking thru all the stuff in the arts/ crafts isle.. and got tempted to get her something.

Of late, I have been feeling how silly our art classes in school were - marks for coloring within the lines and that too for kids in kindergarten. I think having her has made me think about a lot of things I wouldn't have otherwise blinked about :D

UTBT SAYS: I remember art and PE classes get cancelled to make way for extra math and such :)

Loved the art series.
I remember reading this book long time back.. I forget the name and the author.. momnesia u see.. The author mentions something along the lines - A child comes into the world prepackaged with abundance of creativity and intuition. We the parent/school/environment use our judgment, our understanding, and in the process of teaching them, kill/restrict their creativity and intuition. Restrict/Unweed/Trim/fix and slowly transform them into someone else.

UTBT SAYS: Power Of Play? Hurried Child? David Elkind? His name comes to my mind as he is my favorite author. But there are many people out there echoing these thoughts.

This is always the gripe from David Elkind to Sir Ken Robinson to 3 idiots. But what is the alternative? Because one size fits all cannot be applied here. The only think I can conclude so far is parental judgment is key. One does not decide for the child, then choose school, learning style that supports the child's style and interest. All this focusing on the individual(the child) without getting intimidated by how much the child is going to earn in the future, how he/she will survive the rat race.....this is something that make me think...A L.O.T
