I have five more SummerFun posts, but my digital camera stopped focusing for some reason and I am struggling to get good pictures from the phone. So I am taking a small break from the SummerFun posts. Meanwhile at UTBTville…..
Ten days back, R left for a three week trip to India. He visualized the girls coming to airport and giving him a grand send off with plenty of hugs and kisses. But both C and M backed out the very last minute and all he got was me. After he walked in to security, I waved bye and guess what I stumbled in to?! The SFMOMA store at the airport. No strings attached, I mean it quite literally, I spent an hour just drooling over the things they had. R called just before he boarded the flight and was taken aback that I was still at the airport. Even key words such as budget, quality, unique etc did not put him at ease. After ten years of marriage he knows that we both have our own definitions about budget, quality and unique.
My SFMOMA find was Charley Harper. His art was simple, symmetrical, precise, balanced, brought some kind of order to my slightly obsessive compulsive brain and made me wonder if Sanjay Patel was inspired by Charley Harper. There were a whole bunch of alphabet books and counting books based on his prints. I can see myself purchasing the books for my classroom. The color yourself Charley Harper calendar, I would love to implement a DYI version at home.
I bought two board books for my classroom, Kangaroos Have Joeys by Phillipa-Alys Browne and Matisse Dance With Joy. Both were on sale for under ten dollars and I couldnβt resist.
For Chula and Mieja I bought….
Go Fish Art Card Game | Hypotrochoid Art Set | 50 Optical Illusion Cards |
The hypotrochoid art set is such a hit. The girls mixed and matched gears and covered stacks of papers with hypotrochoids. Chula loves the Go Fish art games. Half the time she just sits and stares at the cards. They havenβt caught on with the optical illusions. They think I am seeing things and give me odd looks.
The things drooled over….
Window shopping is so much fun!!

***After ten years of marriage he knows that we both have our own definitions about budget, quality and unique.***
Trueer words were never spoken. Ah, the perils of the comfort zone !
I’ve been to the store at SF MOMA – and its totally drool-worthy – or maybe its just my weakness for sleek placemats and steel/black stationery knicknacks
UTBT SAYS: You should totally check out SFMOMA. May be we can do a CA blog meet @ SFMOMA, that way we can all go crazy shopping π I can sense my vibe affecting the husband and giving him early morn bad dreams π
Foldable Vase is just so fancy !! Loved it !
UTBT SAYS: Absolutely lovely products CA. I has the same feeling I usually get in IKEA. One must start with an empty house/room and decorate it with these products. Cos when you try incorporating these minimalistic designs in to a crowded home, they get lost.
Regarding the Hypotrochoid set …. both girls were able to make patterns ?????? WOW !! It is tricky until to get the hang of it.
UTBT SAYS: Chula, totally. But it took her a few tries/whines/help me pleeeeeeeaseeee ( *shudder* ) before she got it. For the younger child, I had to hold the outer pattern and she worked well with the smallest of the gears in the smallest of the pattern. I noticed that she was not able to complete one full big circle and hence the small circle.
Totally drool-worthy stuff.
Have the 50 Illusions book – very neat it is. Chortling at the girls giving you odd looks!
UTBT SAYS: The illusions book is totally cool. It is not just the girls, I am sure their dad wouldn’t get it either π
Thanks to you I spent the better part of yesterday drooling over that website. And yes, no amount of quality, unique etc will justify the cost of the items I had my eyes on!
Pls post some of the hypotrochoid stuff the girls made. I still remember the many summers spent drawing them with colored ball point pens! π
UTBT SAYS: All the designs they made were on one sided printed paper. I have some project ideas, will implement and then post pictures.
Wow!!Wow!
UTBT SAYS: Yes!Yes!
Never checked out SFMOMA before, will be on my to-do list when I go to the SF airport next. Thanks π
UTBT SAYS: Sure do. The husband is coming back this Sunday, I am in half mind to go early, park and chk out SFMOMA, the other sensible half of the brain is leaning to sticking to CTA tamil class routine π
drooling still… and I have to catch up on so many of your posts!!!
UTBT SAYS: You went on an art spree youself! Eagerly waiting for your pictures.
Shopping dhool kelepiteenga pola!!!! Loved the magnetic flower vase and the clip holder. The hypotrochoid thingie – we call it spirograph here and yes it is so much fun even for adults π
UTBT SAYS: As always dhool than! Actually I liked just browsing without two children pulling my hands. Was awesome.
Just for you –
