In one of her emails PV said
βYour book shelves are so cute and inviting – drooled over the arrangement and the collections – please tell me that you have a cozy nook with bean bags, comfy chairs and soft rugsΒ with a bay window close by to the bookshelves and coffee-on-demand (brewed by the better half while you are busy reading)β
At that time I did not have a dedicated reading area. Its been a long time dream to establish an art space and reading spaces at home. PV’s email kind of got me started. Considering the space limitation, I decided to focus on one thing and do it well. Reading space won ( and I settled for organizing the art material ). This summer, I did some shopping, rearranging and ta-da…… presenting reading spaces on a budget.
Look at the pictures and tell me what you think. If you guys have reading spaces at home that you love, do write about it, post pictures and leave a comment. I would like to take a virtual tour and use the inspiration for the future.

Wow! Lovely, cosy and inviting. Between Prabha’s, Art’s and now your house I am going to get a complex.
And I can see your Tulikas, Harry Potter books and most of all ‘To kill a mockingbird’ next to that yummy looking plate of biscuits. I can see that you have followed up on your wish to read it.:)
UTBT SAYS: I have a complex abt Praba and Art’s house π
My aim is simple, clutter free spaces and books close by.
And their very own space for the girls too! A has one of these and happily sits inside it most days with her books.
UTBT SAYS: Pictures of your cozy reading corners please.
Very very nice. As Sandhya mentioned, I am getting a complex with all you girls posting such yummy eye candy! I love the wonderful collection of books you have, it would be so nice on a lazy summer day to just lounge in those IKEA chairs or the comfy choclatey couch!
Na would defn love the princess castle, can you tell me where you purchased that from? And I think the recognise the store where the curtains are from also! I have the same ones in my bedroom!
UTBT SAYS: The girls are in those chairs for most of the morning.
Princess castle pop up tent is from my favorite toy store WOODENHORSE TOYS(www.woodenhorsetoys.com).
Also available in Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/Schylling-Princess-Pop-Up-Castle/dp/B000J50PR4/ref=pd_sbs_t_5 )
Now, the only thing you have to do to make it complete – invite me over π
Hoping someday I’ll also be writing this post *LOST IN DREAM*
UTBT SAYS: You are welcome any time π
I can imagine you sitting in that couch with that lamp on..lovely place..is this your reading room or the main hall?
UTBT SAYS: Main hall/living room. Most of the time, I am on the cushion or belly down on the carpet with a book.
Lovely!
Love those IKEA chairs!
We have a super comfy chair which both the girls can snuggle into together, with a book each. Thats near a rug with cushions and the bookshelves are all lined up along the wall. We also house our books inside a couple of wardrobes as we have seriously run out of space and the project to get more bookshelves made is still just on the drawing board.
UTBT SAYS: Ahhhmm, will you do pictures? Of just the spot, sans people.
I think the rocking chair is the most inviting place in our house. Its placed beside the patio window and door and gives a wonderful view.
But I have to admit, we have books in every room …. there is a study room with a table and bookshelf … but its not used as often as it should be. Its mostly the rocking chair or the sofa or even our bed.
UTBT SAYS: I am repeating π Pics please, pretty please.
Looks lovely and inviting ! Happy reading !
UTBT SAYS: Yes, thanks to you.

UTBT SAYS: Thanks π
Am so jealous over this reading space, looks very very cozy.
It would be immense pleasure to read in one space like this, happy reading.
UTBT SAYS: Thanks. We have been reading quite voraciously π
wow no words… Happy reading…
UTBT SAYS: Thanks π
First of, looks stunning! Perfect reading room π Btw, are the footrest from Costplus? If you don’t mind me asking, do you think they are comfortable? I am thinking of buying them for my family room and was not sure, how comfortable they are. Thanks in advance π
UTBT SAYS: Thanks. Yes they are from Costplus. At $40 a piece, I am not that happy with them. I make sure that the kids do not abuse them too much, but in 6 -8weeks, the cushion stuffing inside has lumped up. If I may make a suggestion, something like this under the cushion might prolong its lifetime. Or even go with this + this.
I love the stool; but the cushion is out because the color doesn’t go well with the colors I have in the room already. Thank you so much utbt – really appreciate you taking the time to suggest. Will let you know what I got, when I finish the room…
UTBT SAYS: Yep, exactly why I didn’t pick up the cushion from IKEA. Welcome, the pleasure is mine( next house ghee…. wife’s hand concept π ).
wow… I haven’t heard the “adutha veetu neiye… en pondatti kaiye in ages. I am glad you reminded me of that; although, thinking further, should I be offended? π just kidding!
Anyhoo, thanks again for the options / ideas and I am not in any hurry, so will keep looking, I guess. Ever since I saw this (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4277023) in the Costplus website, I have been tempted to buy the cushion; I bought the bench and actually love it, so was even more tempted and when I looked at your picture, decided to get a free review π
UTBT SAYS: No offense intended. The bench looks beautiful.
This is so cool! Firstly, are those chair covers from Ikea?
And econdly, for the longest time I have had this vision for a cosy comfy reading space in the toy room. Your post has given me the burst of inspiration for it.
Do you also have a space for artwork and art supplies UTBT? That’s another thing I want to set up for the boys, properly. Any tips you have for the same will be highly appreciated!
UTBT SAYS: Chairs, chair covers all are from IKEA. Go on T, create reading spaces. I was debating reading spaces vs art space and finally settled for reading spaces. We do have art nooks. Will post on them as per you request.
