My first conscious Raja Ravi Verma sighting at Salar Jung.
By the way, what you see on the web is no match for the original. It was pure genius. I mean look at her…. coy, playing with the flower, fully aware of the set of eyes on her. He has probably made his move and is waiting for her to respond or may be he is just content standing there and looking at her. Are they married or lovers? Something makes me think they are newly married couple trying to get away from a big joint family. What do you thing peeps?

Exactly, me too thinks that they are newly married couple, trying to sneak in a romantic moment!
UTBT SAYS: Every single post of mine, no matter how trivial it is, always has your comment! Now if that isn’t a good friend, what else is?! Thanks and miss you both.
Loved the way you interpreted it, UTBT. She looks married- there is a mani-mangalsutra on her neck. It is obviously a couple from the Deccan region- see his very Maratha looking pagadi (head-dress)? There is an absence of the green bangles, though, which newly married ladies always wear. Methinks it is not a newly married couple, but one married for sme time. The husband seems like a soldier who has come home from an assignment, and is meeting his wife after a long time. Maybe there are elders nearby, in another room, so that can account for the slightly surreptious air.
Love Raja Ravi Varma’s work. What is this titled, BTW?
UTBT SAYS: Sandhya, The title is STOLEN INTERVIEW. I like your analysis. This is like story telling based on a picture.
Very coy… 🙂 And as you say, they do look newly wed !
My fav Ravi Varma painting: Lady holding the fruit. ( http://www.cyberkerala.com/rajaravivarma/ravivarma-painting-98.htm )
UTBT SAYS: Sorry for the late response Aathira. Mine is THE MILKMAID(http://www.cyberkerala.com/rajaravivarma/rrvhtm1.htm). Such innocence on the face, the subject is on the verge of transitioning from girl to young adult and Ravi Verma has captured it so well in the painting!
I thought he gifted her the flower and is watching her appreciate it. Maybe her birthday or some special day that he wants to celebrate? And she is happy that he remembered.. Oh.. I agree with you on the newly married thing though.. vekkam etc comes only then, no?
UTBT SAYS: Stories, stories, stories, stories, love it!
Vekkam comes-eh?! Really! Must ask R if he noticed vekkam or it went out the back door unnoticed!
It definitely looks like a “Stolen Moment” … quite a romantic mood there ! Loved Sandhya’s observations / conclusions.
UTBT SAYS: Stunning pic CA.
The lady is coy and has the knowing smile. But the man, I feel is slightly sad. He is thinking how am I going to be away from this wonderful lady. Maybe he is going far away without her and is thinking about the separation. The lady on the other hand knows her powers! over him and knows that he will be back soon or will soon take her with him.
Or he is sad and thinking – See, I gave her a beautiful flower and look what she did to it – pulling out all the petals!
Either way I think he is a little sad and she has the power.
UTBT SAYS: Awww, what a story behind the painting! Art classes and history classes in schools must be conducted this way I say! I like the ‘separation part’ Vidya!
